Created and performed a number of characters for the Melbourne Theatre Company.
Mrs Everage (foundations for Dame Edna, Barry McKenzie, Lance Boyle
and Sir Less Patterson were some of the characters involved.

Joined the Sydney Philip Revue Theatre, the first satirical comedy theatre in
Australia. Performed in Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" as Estragon.

Journeys to Venice to do a few productions.

Performs as Fagan in Picadilly Theatre opposite a young man known as
Phil Collins who later became a famous musician.

Performs a one-show at the Fortune Theatre, introducing Dame Edna for the

A Night with Dame Edna becomes a smash hit earning Humphries the
prestigious Society of West End Theatres Award |
