Career History:

1946	Formally trained by Joan and Aida Dickens
August 1947	Concert debut as Purcell's Dido
1951	Sang the role of Judith by Eugene Goosen at the Sydney Conservatorium. Later travelled to London to be trained in the Opera School of the RCM.
October 1952	Sang as the First Lady in 'Zie Zauberflote' with the Convent Garden Co.
1959	Sang as Lucia di Lammermoor.
1960-1961	Sang in various countries travelling with the Convent Garden Co.. Paris, La Scala, the Metropolitan, Venice and Dallas.
1979	Awarded the Dame of British Empire
Dec 1990	Final performance on New Year's Eve as the Merry Widow alongside Luciano Pavarotti and Marilyn Horne.
1991	Awarded the Order of Merit
Present day	Together with Marilyn Horne, Sutherland works as judge on various music competition and is a panel member of the Cardiff Singer of the World Competition
