Location: 7 Mount Street, North Sydney

She was not exactly recognized as an official saint but to many Australian, Mary MacKillop is the first saint to touch the hearts of many settlers. (She was short of one miracle, the Catholic Church requires 3 miracles in order for a person to become a saint) When she died, a memorial place was set up to dedicate the memory and her work. On one of his visits to Sydney, Pope John Paul II prayed at her tomb, perhaps giving her the highest honor to an Australian nun.

The Mary MacKillop Place in North Sydney is a beautiful shrine with warm earth tone colors and Aborigines Dreamtime art decorating the entire place. Even if you are not Catholic, the centre is a great place to visit.

The story of Mary MacKillop, her struggles and triumphs will touch your heart. You can visit her place from 10am to 4pm everyday. Closes on Good Friday and Christmas Day.
