When Mel Gibson was only 12 years of age, he along with his 10 siblings, migrated to Australia. Immediately after high school, he went to drama school and was chosen to do a few Australian films. It was not until he star in the movie Mad Max (known in the states as The Road Warrior) that he gained international recognition.

Two sequels soon followed, the third Max Max movie starred the famed singer Tina Turner. Gibson was awarded an award for Best Actor from the Australian Film Institute (AFI) for his role in the movie and then later on, in Gallipoli.

With Hollywood beckoning, Gibson star in Franco Zeffirelli's version of the Shakespeare play Hamlet. Soon afterwards, he would star alongside Danny Glover in four Leather Weapon movies. Mel Gibson began his directorial debut with The Man with Two Faces and started his own company known as The Icon Productions.

He gained a reputation as a director to be reckoned with when he star and directed the much acclaim Braveheart which won him 5 academy awards in 1996. Since then he has star in a number of films including Ransom, The Conspiracy Theory and most recently Payback.
