For a chance to travel back to Sydney's past, why not try Old Sydney Town which is an authentic village with real life people dressed in period costumes. After the first settlers settled in Sydney Cove in the 1788, the colony expanded into other areas due to the sudden growth of population.
The site for Old Sydney Town was chosen for its source of fresh water and fertile land. as Sydney became more centralized, the town was abandoned. The fate of the town was left in the hands of developers until there was a public outcry that the town be saved and restored.
Old Sydney Town was created to teach the public about the history of Sydney. You can browse through the lime stoned buildings that offer from anything such as a mock warrant for your arrest to traditional meat pies. Donkey rides as well as feeding and patting domestic animals are also available.
TIP: Getting to Old Sydney Town is best done by driving. Simply drive north along the Pacific Highway until you see a white brown sign indicating the village. Turn left and follow the road until you reach the entrance.
As always, wear a hat and comfortable shoes. The kiosk and restaurant within the village offer refreshments but bring along a flask of water anyway.
