Location: Redfern

Most city guide books will not even recommend (let alone mention) Redfern as one of the places to visit. The suburb is tucked between Surry Hills and behind the University of Sydney.

It is unfortunate that Redfern have received so much blacklash in the past. Refern is the place where you will find the largest concentration of Aborigines living there. Fundings to the town have seen many of the beautiful terrances on most of the buildings fallen into disrespair.

As for the community that lives there, drug and alcohol problems have plagued them for a long time. There is a sense of frustration and tension when it comes to relationships between the community and the government thus giving a lack of hospitatlity.

TIPS: Redfern is not a place that is recommended for any tourist to visit as it is the poorest section of Sydney. However do not let this put you off as there are many interesting building and architecture that are worth exploring.

If you wish to visit Redfern, take a few precaution. Do not go as soon as it turns dark and stick to well lit areas. If a person approaches you, simply ignore that person and head for the nearest shop.
